F-stop is a best-selling author, international photographer and successful business owner with experience in the publishing, magazine, printing and photographic industries. Fitzgerald has managed editorial and production facilities, in magazine and book publishing, on both coasts. His successful collaboration with Stephen King—Nightmares In The Sky—has become the virtual bible for fans of gargoyles and grotesques, and was a national bestseller.  He has authored 12 books of his own photography and been contributing photographer to dozens more.

He has developed books for Simon & Schuster, Fodor’s, William Morrow, Bulfinch, St. Martin’s Press, Thunder’s Mouth, Carroll & Graf, Vintage, Frommers, Villard, Henry Holt, H.M. Gousha, Viking Studio, Hyperion, Prentice Hall, Wiley, Avalon, Longstreet Press, DK, St. Martins, People Magazine, Random House, Sterling, Collins, and International Masters Publishers.

Fitzgerald began his career as a freelance photographer shooting music, art and politics for San Francisco Bay Area publications—San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Tribune, and San Francisco Magazine.  His work has been published in over 100 periodicals, including Rolling Stone, Village Voice, LA Weekly, Publisher’s Weekly, GQ Japan, Variety, Darkroom, American Photographer, Spin, Billboard, Travel & Leisure, Entertainment Weekly, and the Washington Post.  He was a staff photographer for Bay Area Music Magazine and City Arts.
F-stop founded the EYE Gallery in San Francisco, and has curated numerous group shows. His photographs have been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally at such venues as: the National Gallery of Australia, Museo del Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico City, Rosco Louie Gallery, Galleria de la Raza, Martin/Weber Gallery, Everson Museum of Art, Real Art Ways, LightWorks, the American Museum of Fly Fishing and the Museum of Temporary Art.  

Teaching, Lectures & Positions
In addition to lecturing on photography at such venues as LightWorks, CEPA Gallery, U.C. Berkeley and Boston University, he has taught art and photography at the Institute for Ecosystem Studies, S.U.N.Y. Ulster, Marist College and Vassar College.  He was senior director of operations at Avalon Publishing, where he oversaw operations, finance, human resources, information technology, art, design and production departments in their New York offices. Fitzgerald was also C.O.O. of Hylas Publishing, an international illustrated packaging and publishing firm.  He lives with his wife and two children in New York’s Hudson River Valley.
